You can’t understand the manual. There are manuals for all kinds of equipment and processes that are too lengthy, too complex, too full of jargon or just too hard to follow.

A Customer needs to accomplish something. Customers need to do things correctly. They may need guidance (especially if they are new to your concept or procedure) on how to accurately fill in a form or use something to find one of your products to buy etc.

You want to use temporary staff. Temporary staff can be a necessity if you are short staffed. The problem comes with showing them how to use a system (e.g.. telephone, computer, process an order, operate machinery). This usually means removing another member of your permanent staff to show them how to do something.

A new process is introduced. When a new process or system is introduced you need to train people as quickly, easily and accurately as possible on how to perform the task.

You are in a pressured or hazardous environment and have to perform a task. If something unfamiliar needs to be done during a pressured environment e.g.. an accident or emergency has happened and someone needs to shut some machinery down in a particular manner.

You have a learning difficulty. People with learning difficulties can sometimes find it hard to follow what others would presume to be an easy to learn task.

|
You don’t speak the language. Some people have difficulty in performing tasks or following instructions if they don’t speak the native language.
